FOR THE SAFETY OF YOUR BUSINESS AND EMPLOYEES

Health Surveillance - Lead Monitoring

If you or your employees are exposed to possible lead contamination in the workplace, get tested for peace of mind. Choose between on-site or in-clinic at one of our healthcare centres around Sydney

The Dangers of Lead Poisoning

There are many jobs where workers can come into contact with lead, which presents a serious health risk.  These jobs include welding, spray painting, repairing radiators, abrasive blasting, recycling batteries, and removing lead-based paints.

Exposure to lead can cause headaches, stomach pains and anaemia – or worse, damage to the kidneys, nerves or brain, and even infertility.

Over the past three years more than 30 workers were injured in NSW as a result of working with lead. Don't let your employees add to that statistic.

Positive Health Group provides a comprehensive diagnosis and monitoring through a physical examination and a blood test - all carried out according to Safe Work Australia's stringent guidelines.

Call 02 9804 0480 to discuss your on-site Health Surveillance requirements and book in your session.

Exposure to Lead and Your Workers' Health

Under Work Health & Safety Regulations (WHS) Lead is used in the workplace in a variety of products including, batteries, radiation shielding and ammunition. It was used extensively in lead paints and lead fuels before these products were banned, and may still be present in some workplaces.
Exposure to lead can cause adverse health effects which may include :-

• reduced fertility, and birth defects and developmental delays in children.
• cancer
• cardiovascular disease
• kidney damage
• effects on the nervous system, including difficulty concentrating, hearing loss, loss of balance, tremors
• behavioural changes like aggression, anxiety and depression
• anaemia

Health monitoring is provided to workers undertaking lead risk work before the worker first starts the work and one month after. This will include:-

• demographic, medical and occupational history
• physical examination, and
• biological monitoring, (taking a blood sample and measuring the blood lead level.)

Health monitoring can be used to help identify whether existing control measures are working effectively or whether more effective control measures should be implemented.

The WHS Laws are regularly reviewed and updated and we will ensure compliance.

In summary, the process is as follows:-
